Any time children can interact with nature it is a good thing. Projects that involve nature bring a connection to the outdoors and the kids love it.
Pinecone Birdfeeder
Collect pinecones as a group or have each student bring in a pinecone for “homework.” Wrap a foot-long piece of yarn or string around the middle of a pinecone and tie, leaving at least 6-inch loop dangling. Using a plastic knife, spread peanut butter in the crevices of the pinecone. For an added treat, roll in birdseed. Hang in a tree outside a classroom window to watch the birds feast!
