Alphabet Food Fun – H is for Hamburger part deux

In my first “real” post for Alphamania, the title was “H is for Hamburger” and I mentioned a positive review from a teacher friend who had made them with her kindergarten class. Silly me forgot to give the recipe! Thus, here is Alphabet Food Fun – H is for Hamburger part deux.

Hamburgers are always great to make and eat, whether you’re studying the letter H or not. Here’s a new twist on making hamburgers that’s even more fun.

Materials for each “hamburger:”

2 vanilla wafer cookies (bun)

½ of a chocolate sandwich cookie (the meat)

green tinted coconut (lettuce)

red hot candies (tomatoes)

 white frosting (mayonnaise)

Lay one vanilla wafer with the flat side up on a paper towel. Add a dab of frosting. Place 1/2 chocolate sandwich cookie on top. Add several dabs of frosting. Place some green coconut pieces and a couple red hot candies on top. Smear the flat side of the other vanilla wafer with white frosting and place frosting side down on the coconut and candies. Viola! A hamburger that’s sure to please even the most discriminating taste.

Here is Suzanne’s review of the project:

I want you to know that we were studying the letter H this week and we made the hamburgers with the vanilla wafers. The kids LOVED it. It was great! One of my little girls said that it was the best hamburger she had ever tasted. LOL

While a fun and yummy activity, this is also great for teaching following directions.
