Learn the Alphabet – D is for Dot Dot Dot

 Dot Designs – Create pictures with sticker dots of varying sizes and colors. These dots are often used for price stickers for yard sales. Find them in the office supply aisle in most stores or make your own tiny ones by punching holes in construction paper with a hole punch. A “dot” of glue will fasten the construction paper ones on another sheet of paper to make innumerable designs. The possibilities are endless for this project.

Math Activities – Give students a color pattern to complete – green dot, orange dot, orange dot, green dot . . .What comes next?

Or, give each student a handful (or several) dots in a variety of colors. Count the number of dots in a certain color and graph the results.

Donald Crews’ 1968 book, Ten Black Dots, is a great rhyming story to read to students to discover what can be done with ordinary objects and black dots.
